Partially because of: their super chocolatey mochas...and also partially cause of their minimalist interior...and also partially because of their dapper baristas. Cue the pervy smiles... ;-)
A new kid on the block, it opened just last year, but has already garnered a fairly religious following - probably due to the above mentioned reasons, as well as its general accessibility to those living in the neighborhood.
To those who don't know how to read Hangul, this place might be a little hard to find, given its hipster-fake-signboard concept.
Felt is housed in a space previously known as 은파 피아노 (Eun Pa Piano), but the owners left the signboard and refurbished the space into a concrete/wood-esque style that just about fits into every minimalist feed I see on Instagram. Even their workspace is so clean and seamless - take a look at their filter tap emerging like a table piece and their coffee scales recessed into the counter.
They have a vinyl player in the store that plays selections like Coldplay and Sufjan Stevens - real chill - and just about any indie band you've heard of. Note: English songs only! Well, they were definitely jamming right up my alley.
Aside from that, the baristas all dress in tailored shirts, pants and suspenders - on some days even wearing fedoras, which were probably from their neighbour store: Seasoning for Seasons i.e. a bespoke menswear tailor.
P.s. I've dibs on the tallest one. Just kidding, he's taken.
After much observation, I kind of realised they have this little hipster community, where nearby indie-stores like AllWrite (Stationery), Fritz Coffee Company (Coffee), The Old Croissant Factory (Pastries), etc. - they visit each other from time to time, and it's just so different from what we have here... where all we have are like competing cafes and stuff. Oh well, the other stores are worth checking out too if you're in the area!
Basically, Felt is a monotone cafe that serves up coffee as well as an added affogato on its menu, in collaboration with ice cream from Fell + Cole. I'd recommend getting the Vanilla Latte as well as the Mocha - well that was what we got religiously everyday on our visit, and no regrets. :-)
We shamelessly visited this place for a week - almost consecutively - holding the mentality of "seizing every chance, cause we'll never come back"; but I'm sure I'll head back there when I ever return to Korea. Haha, sorry for terrorising your lives guys.
